The inaugural Western Australian Indigenous Art Awards are set to intrigue, impress, delight and provoke audiences when the Awards exhibition opens on 1 November 2008.

The exhibition will showcase outstanding works by sixteen Indigenous artists from across the nation. Each of the artists will bring a unique vision to the Awards and, placed together, their work will reveal the dominant and emerging mediums, subjects and experiences shaping contemporary Indigenous art today.

Better uses for Send To

When your right click on an item, you’re given the option of selecting Send To, to send the file to an Email Recipient, to the A: drive, and so on.

• In Windows Explorer, goto C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Username>\SendTo.
• Create a shortcut to any location you like in this folder, by:
• Either right click and choose New Shortcut, or
• Find a folder or location in the Windows Explorer folder tree, and drag it into the SendTo folder using your right mouse button.  Using your left mouse button will copy the whole folder.  Using the right mouse button will create a shortcut.

wellbeing. The evidence for the link between contact with nature and health benefits suggests that people may actually be dependent on nature in order to realise their full health potential.

How to remove Windows Genuine Advantage Notification

Copy and paste the following lines into Notepad.

Save this as C:\Documents and Settings\<your_username>\task.cmd

• Open Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.
• Go to Local Users and Groups > Users > <your_username>
• Right-click > Properties > Profile tab.
• In the Logon Script field, type task.cmd.  Press OK.

Close all windows, Log Out of Windows, and Log back in.

The Last Whale

Bookseller & Publisher Magazine in its September 2008 edition wrote: “The Last Whale is a lively account of the protest action that brought an end to whaling in Australia in the 1970s.”

Freelance reviewer Sally Denmead said: “Pash should be commended for his objective and balanced approach, devoting just as much time to the stories of individual whalers and what the industry meant to them and the town of Albany, as he does to the activists.”

In a separate interview in the same magazine, Chris Pash said: “I enjoy equally the company of the whalers and the anti-whaling activists. I went out with the whalers twice, both times catching sperm whales. I feel close to them and somewhere along the line I took on the responsibility to tell their story fairly and accurately, to be a champion, to explain their lives honestly but not to be an apologist.”

On the anti-whaling activisits of 1977, Pash said: ” They were crazy, but somehow magical, to throw themselves in front of an explosive head harpoon. There’s a part in all of us that longsto take action, tilt at windmills, right wrongs, take a final stand. Stuff it, let’s do it. But few acton that longing. So, why did these people? The Last Whale seeks answers.”

Keeping your hard drive clean.

Keeping a cleanly running Windows system is a sure fire way to make using your computer a much more satisfying experience. Good personal computing practices should involve:

1. A stable hardware platform and automated maintenance
2. A stable operating system with no performance bottlenecks
3. An efficient desktop experience
4. A well organised document file structure

In this post, I’ll look at a component of keeping a stable operating system: Keeping your hard drive clean.

Your hard drive easily becomes bloated with many files and folders which do not need to be kept. These include windows and application temporary files, unused and orphaned applications, and special storage folders.

First off, you want to get a picture of how much space each of the folders in your folder tree is using. Tree Size Professional presents your hard drive folders in an annotated hierarchical tree view, just like Windows Explorer, and includes a contextual pie chart view of the folder being scrutinised.

When you view your hard drive’s folders, the following folders will probably show as large folders.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Documents

C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles

Next, you need the right tool to cleanup all unnecessary files.

Windows comes with it’s own disk cleanup tool: Disk Cleanup (Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup).

• Remove temporary Internet files.
• Remove downloaded program files. For example, ActiveX controls and Java applets that are downloaded from the Internet.
• Empty the Recycle Bin.
• Remove Windows temporary files.
• Remove optional Windows components that you are not using.
• Remove installed programs that you no longer use.

Windows Disk Cleanup should be complemented by an additional third-party tools, which can find more specific and a larger range of temporary files to remove.

• Find Empty Folders
• Find Duplicates
• Search For Registry Errors
• Clean Most Recently Used information
• Remove Programs from Windows Login Autoload
